Martyn Phillips was appointed as WRU Group Chief Executive in July 2015
and took up the post in the Autumn of the same
year. Martyn is a Director of British Lions and Celtic Rugby, and is a member of the Council of the Six Nations.
The WRU strategy is the result of wide ranging research and consultation throughout the game in Wales during Martyn’s first 12 months in office. It defines the stated purpose of Welsh rugby as ‘More People, More Often with More Enjoyment and More Success’ and is freely available online at wru.wales.
Martyn was formerly CEO of B&Q, the £4bn home improvement giant which is part of Kingfisher. They are one of Britain’s FTSE 100-listed companies which employs some 33,000 people across its UK stores. He joined Kingfisher plc in 1994 and held a number of senior management roles in the company until he left B&Q in 2014.
Whilst at school, he won Welsh international caps at u15 level and was a member of the Welsh schools u18 squad before going on to represent Welsh colleges.
